I was photographing trees last winter (nothing new there!) and was really taken with the trunks and their shadows. These lines and angles inspired me to think abstractly about the stability of the trees in contrast to the air flowing past them. I sketched ideas of cloth blanketing the trunks with loose edges fluttering in the wind. As I continued to work, the loose ends elongated and organized into ribbons, and then the Stars and Stripes emerged. A stunning image to honor those who protect and serve.

The embroidery along the top references the ribbon work textile patterns used by the Delaware People/Leni Lenape, who used to live where I now live.
