Textiles, no paint. Third in the series, Seven Modern Sins, SHAME was a process of self-discovery. Different from 'guilt' as a response to what I had done, 'shame' is a response to who I am. Turning inward and covering one's face turns out to be an archetypical gesture among children and adults across cultures. The figure is surrounded by square cut-outs containing pouches of tangled fabric strips (like spaghetti in tea bags).
Materials: Cotton, linen, velvet, silk organza, nylon organza
Techniques: Hand and machine pieced, raw edge appliqué, heat fusion, machine stitching. Cut-outs and outer edges are faced. An organza pouch (edges stitched) filled with fabric strips are tacked to the inside corners of each cut-out. Backed.
