In 1911, Umberto Boccioni completed three paintings exploring the psychological dimensions of the transitory nature of modern life. Boccioni’s series, set at a train station, was called ‘States of Mind,’ which included: The Farewells, Those Who Stay, Those Who Go.
Over a century later, inspired by Boccioni, I created a parallel series ‘States of Nature’ in which trees in the French Creek watershed area express, for us, the psychological dimensions of man’s subjugation of nature.
For Those Who Go, I discovered this particular tree at the edge of a dying forest appearing to carry away a(nother) lost soul.
